Book Covers

Book Covers
This book cover is very simple and it looks like the book is about interrogating a criminal. The light bulb is an example of the types of lights used in interrogations. The image, simple font and lack of bright colors shows the cold feeling that this book gives off, interrogation isnt a happy and bright subject.

This cover uses colors and text to form the American flag. This really draws the reader because it is interesting and very unique. It is only three colors, red white and blue, which help portray that this book is about American history and it keeps the color nice and simple. The simplicity is important because if there were a lot of colors than maybe the concept of the American flag made by text would be lost.

This book cover is more suggestive than some of the others because it depicts books having sex with a sticker that says "do me" over them. The sticker looks like the kind of sticker that goes on books to identify the author in a library. The colors are simple which is appealing to the viewer. The raunchy idea of the cover is unique, therefore drawing the viewer's attention.

Like the previous cover this book cover has a sexual undertone which draws the reader and it is very memorable. The bright background with the contrasting foreground is very appealing and it makes the cover pop. You can tell this book will either be about food or sex because of the connotations of the images on the cover.

This is definitely my favorite cover because it is so simple but so straight forward. It looks like the word "Oil" is written with oil so it plays off the words. The simplicity is very appealing to me and the contrasting of the bright and dark colors really draws me in. The little white highlights in the oil gives the text a three dimensional feeling which is very interesting to me.

Favorite Book (Cover)

Favorite Book
My favorite book is "Falling Man" by Don Delillo. I particularly enjoy this book because it is based on my father's recount of 9/11 and also I chose the cover before the book came out. Also the author, Don Delillo is my uncle so thats also why I like it.
I feel as though the book cover really captures the dark feeling of the book, as it is about 9/11. The man falling symbolizes the people that jumped from the burning buildings. The 11 is part of the 9/11 but also they symbolize the twin towers. The three contrasting colors give the book a dark feeling and makes the cover simple and easy to read.

Announcement Poster

Before
I really like simple posters and simple art because it is easier for me to grasp and understand. I also wanted to use the school colors because the announcement I did, parent teacher conferences, has to do with the school. I then realized that my initial plan was far too simple. It was not eye catching at all and it looked like it could be made on Microsoft Word.

After
I really tried stepping out of my comfort zone by adding colors that I have never experimented with. I wanted to use contrasting colors and I wanted to fill the entire space appropriately. I tried different directions with the text to catch the viewers' attention and I separated the space to make it easier to understand.

Logo Project Reflection

Most Challenging Aspect
For me, the most challenging aspect of my logo was incorporating horses with a high school in the city. When you think of a horse, you think of the country and farms, but obviously we do not have that in Millennium High School. I wanted to make the logo and the high school intertwine somehow to show that the horse is part of the high school rather than just next to it.
The way I overcame this challenge was I made the horse jump over the "H" in "MHS" to integrate the horse with the high school. It also helps portray the message of the club which is uniting the students interested in horses because the horse is uniting the letters.

Most Successful Aspect
I think my most successful aspect is the coloring because I used the school pictures (black and red) to make the image look uniform and represent the school. The coloring is significant because it shows that horses are part of the school and this club is a big part of the school.

Winter Break

Winter Break
For winter break I didnt do much at all. Every day I slept till 11-12 and then for the rest of the day I either watched TV or did homework. Yesterday I went out to lunch with my boyfriend and his grandma, but overall I slept. Every night I fell asleep at 10 which was really nice. I was sick for most of the break so I slept and coughed a lot. Im happy that I didnt do anything because I needed the rest that I got, I still need more sleep though. Im still so tired because I didnt get a lot of sleep last night because I was up doing homework. To summarize, I slept for winter break.

Equestrian Club

Summary
The equestrian club is meant to allow students in New York City to experience horseback riding and learn about horses overall. It is difficult to ride in the city so the club goes to Prospect Park to ride and enjoy the company of horses. Also, riding can be therapeutic so it is an outlet of stress and allows the students to express themselves. A common theme in the equestrian club is self exploration. When bonding with an animal and learning to control it, it teaches a lot about ones self and can make a person more self aware. As of right now there are approximately 15 students in the club and they will all start riding in the spring, as it is hard to ride outside in the snow. The students will be riding english style riding and will be riding for not only improving skills but also recreational purposes.
